los llamarada @ ms. beas

Saw Psychedelic Horseshit twice yesterday. At music gym and at ms. beas. The performance at ms. beas was one of the most pure and honest displays of music I have ever seen. The songs, all of which were new, were very angry, sarcastic and directed to the audience that stood before them. Of all the bands that I have seen play this week, none seemed as important than what was from this stage. Lyrically his comments were about the current evolution of music and the eventual fall of what was resurged from Columbus apartments due to the rise in lofi/indie popularity in the commercial world. It reminds me of the rise of Nirvana in the 90s and Kurt not wanting to be apart of this current scene of bullshit hipster wannabes. Matt, I see you eye to eye. You are right. Wavves suxx.

ADD REVERB AND PHASER / WAVVES SUCK

It was another long and hot day yesterday. Many beers consumed in the wake of it all. Kyle and I started our day off at Beerland catching the hotness from the east coasts label, sacred bones. In the course of 5 hours we saw Absinthe mind, zola jesus, dead luke, gary war, pink noise and the one and only FACTUMS. I could go with out seeing any more shows at all after seeing them. I am certainly convinced that they are the best band on the block right now. No one can even touch that live show. Multiple harmonied keys, loud as duck effect ridden guitar, brutal drums and a heavy low end. They played 7 songs and they were all great.

We tried to make it to see Thee Oh Sees, but they had already finished and packed. The then decide to ride up to Club 1808 to see Aids Wolf. In route, bike troubles force us to stop at Trailer Space for a wrench, where I notice the Barbaras from Memphis standing outside and Ty Segall walking through the front door. We stayed. Ty played 5 songs for us and it was fucking great. After Ty finished we said goodbye for now and moved on. Club 1808 is in the fucking hood. This was the best venue though. This amazing dude was selling pork chop sandwiches for 3 bucks, which no one was buying. So I bought one. It was awesome. He didn't know why people were paying 6 dollars for vegan wraps, let alone what "it" was. I gave him the reciept and a tall boy. We stayed from the british band PRE. And left shortly after.

Landed at Ms. Beas again. TV Ghost was playing. Nicole, Stephanie and KC from Five Star stopped in and loured us to Red 7 to see Soft Circle, Abe Vigoda and Mika Miko. It cost 10 bucks, it sucked balls, and we left for none lame shit. From there we walked across town to another bust. Ballet Austin, no booze. From there we left for the Conteniental Club for a beer then split back to Ms. Beas for the 4am acoustic show. Vivian Girls were very good. Wavvvves sucked balls. All hype. Met Anni Rossi there. Rode home with Glen on the handle bars of the cruiser. Destroyed leftover indian food, broke a mug and passed out. - wacka wacka.

EPIC Days

So, Tuesday was crazy. We woke up early, ran to K's studio, went to home depot, bought some lumber and baked in the hot hot sun. I built Kristina a garden box, which took almost no time, looks rad and is now filled with many delicious herbs. Around 3 we decided to head to the Ginger Man, an Irish bar on st patties day. We met up with totally sweet dude Josh and his son Fred. Josh was in the UT MFA program and i met him the last time I was in town. Anyway, bad bad band, English Teeth. Great name, shitty music. But whatevers, the guinness was flowing, and all was well in the world. Headed to Best Wurst after for some totally sweet Bratwursts. Then met up with Konway and his wife at Love Joys for more drinks. After getting faded, we traveled to Mohawks to meet up with John, Bridgid, Petey, Mike, Ty Segall, and BLH. The Fresh and Only's totally fucking ripped it. Think what you will about the recording, this band is the shit. And they have a new record out. Speaking of new records, Thee Oh Sees Help was on their merch table. Pink wax too. The kicked ass, played lots of new shit. Spent the night hanging with that crew, went to some crazy house party, and woke up on the floor of TOC's house.

Wed. - Woke up early, on the floor. No phone. No watch. And no idea where i was. Went to the airport to meet Kyle and head back to Kristina's for a nap and a recharge. Kyle and I went back to the Mohawk to pick up the bikes and headed to Ms. Beas for totally rad BBQ, and great jams. Pocahaunted was the shit. Knowing what lied ahead for us, we make a conscious decision to take it easy. Which translates to, more beer, free shows, lots of walking. Nothing much to mention of really, we did end up driving out to the end of the earth to a Red Bull Party, but it was RSVP only. Fuckers. We slept instead.

Thursday - Sacred Bones.

Kristina in her Kitchen

Outside Rio Rita's

-Begin transmission -

I am officially in TX now. It is 11am. It is 73 degrees outside. Had a whirlwind day yesterday. I arrived around 4pm. Kristina picked me up and we immediately went to home slice pizza for a ricotta, spinach, tomato basil pizza and a pitcher of Amber Ale. Best pizza in Austin, hands down. Apparently they close this place one week a year, and fly all, ALL, the staff to NYC to do research on NY style pizza. (The pie was also great at 230am.) After working on a few things at the Sculpture Lab at UT we took a short nap. Drank a few Lone Stars, went to a head shop and Wheatsville for groceries. Picked up Glen at the airport around ten. And was pulled over by the Texas State Police around 10:05. Apparently Kristina's registration had expired, and she wouldn't tell us exactly why she was freaking out so bad. She did get away with only a warning, surprisingly. When then ran to the Elephant Room to see some standard jazz and meet with Ryan and Natasha. We left after one beer. Downtown was already packed to the brim. We opted for Rio Rita's, an east side bar that had killer Bloody Mary's. Great place. Totally hip dive, old furniture reminds me of friends basements. They also serve pizza. I wish Chicago had ONE place like this. Austin seems to have hundreds. On the way out, The Long Branch Inn calls us. We stop in for a night cap, and I totally slayed people in pool, which if you know me at all, it is a total fluke.

I hadn't been out for long,
nor realized the situation.
I hadn't seen the approaching storm.
Wasn't prepared for the rain.
Starring out of the crowded doorway.
Awaiting for it to break.
Peaceful sounds of passing cars,
sought to find in meditation.
I can hear you coming.
I can hear you calling my name.

Global Print examines globalization and its effects on everyone. Columbia students and recent alumni exhibit works of all media that address globalization, cultural destruction and rebirth, and the phenomenon of cross-cultural and global information exchange. The work pushes the boundaries of print processes, explores new techniques, and encourages the viewer to think of art in a global manner.

Opening March 16th-April 24th. 623 S. Wabash. Hokin Gallery.
24 stamps,
all marked the same.
a gift of six,
as sirens whirl beyond trains.
a gentle hum,
settles the wind.
horns blow deeply,
a startled within.
its almost quiet now,
with a slow steady breeze.
there are no lights,
there is not much to see.

AM radio,
is how it found me.
Not to confuse,
the time not the band.
Again I lay,
day bracing me.
A retreat back to horrible places.
Former events,
and the gamble that we might never know.
Afraid for what could.
Shocked if what should.
Nothing to do but press on.

Our country is in the dregs.
Let em' roll.
Forgotten what it once was.
We can take white,
a sign of peace.
Or rather,
a new sheet to write upon.
